The term eczema covers a wide variety of skin concerns and is the most common name used for atopic dermatitis. Eczema differs from person to person and there are several types of eczema making it difficult to treat without specialist consultation. Eczema sufferers generally have a weaker, less protected skin which is more vulnerable to drying out and becoming reddened, irritated, inflamed and infected. The cause of eczema is unknown however it is believed to most likely be of either genetic or environmental origin. Although there is no cure, eczema sufferers can gain relief from products that have anti-irritation and anti-inflammatory properties. One of the most important aspects of dealing with eczema is keeping skin hydrated and moisturised which can stop skin from cracking, reduce dryness and irritation. It’s very important to consider that environmental conditions, household chemicals and skincare products can have adverse effects on the skin resulting in infections and allergic reactions.
