Rosacea has no permanent cure at this moment in time, there are only treatments that can relieve discomfort and prevent the condition from worsening. You cannot catch rosacea from someone else so it is not contagious. As mentioned before there are various treatments to reverse the signs of rosacea such as medications to reduce inflammation, laser for visible blood vessels and plastic surgery for thickened skin but living a lifestyle that minimizes the chances of triggering symptoms of Rosacea is also very important to prevent and contain the condition.
1. Use moisturiser when your skin feels sore; only apply moisturisers after applying topical medication
2. When you wash always cleanse the areas with signs of Rosacea
3. Refrain from rubbing or itching areas where Rosacea is visible on the skin
4. Avoid spicy foods and alcohol. Also avoid any facial products that contain alcohol
5. Be careful in warm and cold conditions. Do not allow yourself to get too hot and wear a broad spectrum sunscreen with a SPF of 15 at the very least. In cold conditions cover your face with a scarf or ski mask
6. Use normal razors as opposed to electric shavers as they are more likely to induce flare ups
7. Try to avoid any over-the-counter creams unless your doctor has prescribed them for you
8. Stress is considered a key trigger of rosacea so try to get 7 quality hours of sleep and live a healthy lifestyle by eating healthily and exercising. Yoga and swimming are great activities to reduce stress levels. You can also build up a list of foods that you notice to be the cause of flare ups and then removing them from your diet
