DARK CIRCLES

Dark Circles are visible under the eye area when blood vessels under the skin shine through resulting in a bluish tint. Dark Circles commonly appear with age but hereditary, fatigue and medical conditions are another phenomenon that alters the contouring of the eye.

AGEING SKIN

The skin around our eyes (peri-orbital skin) is the thinnest skin in our body. With age skin becomes thinner and underlying blood vessels become more noticeable because the skin is more transparent. With age skin becomes thinner because the strength of our skin becomes weaker and proteins within the skin degrade. As the skin around the eye becomes more transparent the underlying blood vessels appear more visible and darker. Sun light (UV exposure) can be extremely damaging to the skin and leave the skin weaker and less resilient so wearing high factor protection is vital especially for the face and eyes.

HEREDITY & GENETICS

Its possible dark circles are just something we have and there’s no particular reason to explain why. Some people may naturally have thinner skin around the eye area or the blood vessels beneath the skin may be naturally larger. Facial bone structural features can simply shadow the eye area making the appearance of the circles look darker.

FATIGUE

If the skin is white then it’s easier for the blood vessel bluish tint to appear so getting enough sleep is important. Simple things like eating well, taking nutrients and living a healthier, stress free lifestyle can also be important to protecting against the appearance of dark circles.

MEDICAL CONDITIONS

Some medication prescribed by your doctor to increase blood flow can be the cause of the dark circles. Allergies such as hay fever or food allergies can cause dark circles. Rubbing around the eye area can cause the skin to become thinner so sufferers of eczema, asthma or anything that causes you to rub the irritable eye area may be the cause of dark circles.

CONCLUSION

There are many topical solutions to reduce the appearance of dark circles. Using topical creams that can reduce the appearance of dark circles will be less restrictive than covering and concealing dark circles.
